Notwithstanding the scientific consensus regarding the early development of social categorization in children, the notion of the "innocent child," often associated with the notion of children's perceived inability to engage in practices of difference, persists as a prevailing truism. This notion is at least contested by childhood studies inspired by social constructivism, as agency is attributed to children: Children are conceptualized as actors. This prompts the following question: to what extent can practices of differentiation among children be interpreted? The manifestation of practices of differentiation among children is a subject that merits further investigation. The present research project investigates anti-Semitic differentiation practices among children, a topic that will be discussed in the forthcoming lecture.

Claudia Machold has been Professor of Educational Science with a focus on childhood research in elementary and primary education at the Institute for Elementary and Primary Education at the Goethe University Frankfurt since 2022.
