The Buber-Rosenzweig Institute, as a research center for modern and contemporary Jewish intellectual and cultural history, sees itself as part of a close-knit network in the field of Jewish studies, interdisciplinary research on various facets of Jewish history and culture, research on antisemitism, and research on the memory of the Shoah, including the Jewish Museum Frankfurt am Main, the Fritz Bauer Institute, and the Frankfurt Jewish Academy. In addition to collaboration with these Frankfurt institutions, cooperation within Goethe University plays a particularly significant role in the Institute’s development: Beyond the Department of Protestant Theology, faculty and researchers engage in exchange with various disciplines in the humanities and religious studies, such as the Department of Jewish Studies, the Department of History, and the Institute for the Study of Islamic Culture and Religion, as well as through connections to the Schnittstelle Religion and the Network on Religious Dynamics. The interdisciplinarity inherent in Jewish intellectual and cultural history is reflected in teaching and research. Cooperation with international institutions plays a prominent role in its projects. It is also the seat of the International Rosenzweig Society and the Hermann Cohen Society.

The institute’s work and academic exchange are shaped by its diverse collaborations and connections. This is particularly evident in the public and internal events, which, in various formats, provide a forum for discussing research projects or engaging in broader societal debates. The research findings of individual faculty members, as well as the outcomes of collaborative efforts and large-scale projects, can be traced through their publications.
