Sophie Bauer, recipient of the Cornelia Goethe Award 2025, will present her book “'Das Natürlichste, was eine Frau haben kann‘ – Eine Soziologie der Menstrualität" (Campus, 2025).
A panel discussion on the relationship between research and politics with Rona Torenz and Sophie Bauer will follow. Among other things, we will talk about our own understanding of research as feminist and what this means, about attempts to co-opt and instrumentalize research by various actors, and why it is precisely topics like menstruation and abortion that serve others to pursue different agendas.
Sophie Bauer earned her doctorate at the Institute of Sociology at Goethe University Frankfurt and has worked as a research associate. She was a doctoral scholarship holder of the Hans Böckler Foundation and an educational officer at a women's center in Frankfurt. In addition to research and teaching, she works freelance as an author and speaker and is involved in networks such as “prina - Politics of Reproduction.” In 2025, she curated the interdisciplinary festival “Reproductive Futures. Feminist Visions for Just Care.”
Rona Torenz is pursuing a doctorate on medical care in the context of abortion at Fulda University of Applied Sciences. She works at the network center "Healthcare after Sexualized Violence" at S.I.G.N.A.L. e.V. From 2020 to 2024, she was a research associate in the ELSA project ("Experiences and Life Situations of Unintended Pregnancies. Counseling and Care Services"). Rona Torenz studied Gender Studies and Philosophy at Humboldt University of Berlin as well as Applied Sexual Science at Merseburg University of Applied Sciences. For over 20 years, she has been committed to reproductive and sexual self-determination and is interested in feminist theories of autonomy, power and domination, female subjectivation, and abortion.
